Joseph Hind & Isabella were my great grandparents. Joseph was in the first generation born after the family left the Lead Mining area in the North Pennines.

He was born & grew up in Sunniside & moved to nearby Tow Law when he got married.

He worked as a coal miner & was a prominent member of the Colliery Brass Band. The above picture is a restored & colourised version of an old sepia photo.

I have tried without success to find out something about the Annfield Plain District band, however it seems that his main band was the CRAGHEAD COLLIERY BAND . See the link (Joseph front row, left). There are also more pictures in the picture gallery.

The following picture is the only one I have of Joseph's wife Isabella, my great grandmother.
